Our 2nd Annual College and Career Conference took place at the Railcats Stadium in Gary Indiana on July 8th.
Our goal was to increase awareness and provide support to high school students and adult learners interested in post-secondary opportunities.
We hosted 92 participants and 25 vendor partners, volunteers and sessions leaders.
Participants met with college and career experts to complete financial aid applications on the spot, learn about postsecondary credentialing, and explore employment opportunities. The community collaborative meeting allowed for multiple organizations to connect, meet and consider ways to work together to increase post-secondary success for students and adult learners. We also met with the Gary Youth Council and Congressman Frank Mrvan to discuss youth voice in bettering the community. In our post-event survey, 100% of respondents reported feeling "more prepared for college or a career opportunity".
Organizations in attendance were: Signa Gamma Rho Sorority Inc., WorkOne, IvyTech Community College, Force for Good, Indiana University Northwest, National Guard, US Army, Indiana Plan, Victory Training, TRIO, Little Lou’s Barbershop, Physicians Coding Education, and Urban League of NWI
