At 21st Century High School, the JumpStart Program has proven to be a resounding success since its inception in 2020. This transformative initiative, led by Coates Inc., has had a profound impact on over 75 students, equipping them with essential skills and knowledge needed for college and career readiness.
Thanks to the generous support of the Illinois State Department of Education Learning Loss Grant for the past two years and now, The Ichigo Foundation for the next two years, the program has thrived, providing vital early college and career services to the school’s 9th and 10th graders.
The JumpStart Program focuses on three key areas: college exploration, career exploration, and community service. Through college visits, admissions panels, career fairs, and community service projects, students are exposed to a wealth of opportunities that encourage academic curiosity, career success, and personal growth. Additionally, the program incorporates essential elements such as creating student portfolios, enhancing financial literacy, and preparing mock college applications, all of which contribute to the students’ holistic development and readiness for the future.
The program’s success is further evidenced by the overwhelmingly positive feedback from participants, with high percentages reporting increased confidence in identifying career pathways, understanding post-secondary training opportunities, and knowing the requirements for college admission. As we enter our third year we are excited to continue making a meaningful difference in the lives of these young learners, empowering them with the tools and opportunities they need to succeed in college and their careers.
